The Ministry of Education has released the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results. Performance improved, and more students qualified for university. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba announced the results on Friday at AIC Chebisas High School in Eldoret.

A total of 993,226 candidates sat the exams, up from 962,512 in 2024. This is an increase of 30,714 candidates (3.19%). Seventeen subjects showed improvement, the same as in 2024. Eleven subjects declined, slightly higher than the ten subjects last year.
Top achievers increased. A total of 1,932 candidates (0.19%) attained an overall mean grade of A (plain), up from 1,693 (0.18%) in 2024. Students scoring C+ and above rose to 270,715 (27.18%) from 246,391 (25.53%) last year. Those scoring C– and above rose to 507,131 (50.92%), up from 476,889 (49.41%). D+ and above also increased to 634,082 (63.67%) from 605,774 (62.76%).
National schools led in top performance, producing 1,526 A (plain) grades. Extra County schools had 197, and private schools had 185. At the mid-level, Sub-County schools outperformed County schools. They had 72,699 candidates scoring C+ and above, compared to 36,600 in County schools.
Female candidates scored higher than males in six subjects: English, Kiswahili, Kenyan Sign Language, Home Science, CRE, and Art & Design. Male candidates outperformed females in 11 subjects. These include Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, General Science, History & Government, Geography, IRE, Building & Construction, and Business Studies. Both genders performed similarly in Physics, Agriculture, Computer Studies, French, German, Arabic and Music.
The Ministry reported 1,180 candidates involved in exam irregularities. “In line with the law, their examination results have been cancelled,” CS Ogamba stated.
Overall, the 2025 KCSE results show steady progress. More students now qualify for university. The results reflect stronger preparation and growing commitment to academic excellence nationwide.
