Afrobeats Star Davido Loses KSh7 Million Bet After Nigeria Falls to Morocco in AFCON Semi-Finals

Afrobeats superstar Davido has reportedly lost a KSh7 million bet after Nigeria failed to defeat Morocco in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-finals. The singer had placed a $50,000 (₦72 million) wager, predicting that the Super Eagles would beat the host nation and that both teams would score.

Ahead of the match, Davido shared his betting slip on Instagram, writing, “Nigeria to make the finals, and I’ll double my stake on my slip.” His prediction drew attention from fans, many of whom were hopeful that Nigeria would advance to the final. Davido had hinted that a successful prediction would earn him a substantial payout exceeding $348,274 over ₦500 million (approximately KSh44 million).

The tense semi-final match took place on Wednesday, January 14, at Morocco’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Both teams battled fiercely throughout regular time, but neither side managed to score. The goalless draw led to a penalty shootout, where Morocco emerged victorious with a 4-2 win, eliminating Nigeria from the tournament.

The outcome dashed Davido’s hopes of claiming a huge payout. Many fans reacted online, some expressing sympathy for the singer while others poked fun at his bold bet. The loss highlights the unpredictable nature of sports betting, where even confident predictions can end in disappointment.

Despite the setback, Davido remains a celebrated figure both in music and in sports enthusiasm. His involvement in AFCON betting demonstrates the growing connection between entertainment personalities and sporting events. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s exit leaves fans reflecting on what could have been, while Morocco advances to the finals to continue their AFCON campaign.
