A Kenyan Liverpool supporter was stabbed to death Meru Town, Kenya, by an agitated Arsenal counterpart after both allegedly disagreed over the outcome of Saturday’s Premier League match between the two teams.
The Reds ran out 5-1 victors after racing to a 4-0 lead within 20 minutes, dealing a blow to the Gunners’ title hopes.
According to Kenyan newspaper People Daily, Imenti North police boss Tom Odero said David Mwangi, a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) operator, stabbed 25-year-old Anthony Mutethia on the chest.
“He was pronounced dead on arrival at Meru Level Five Hospital,” he stated. “The assailant ran away but his motorbike was taken to the police station by Makutano residents.”
Reports from revellers of an entertainment joint at Makutano Shopping Centre revealed the two started arguing at the closing moments of the match. They alleged that Mwangi got bitter after Mutethia started mocking him. On their way out, the argument got nasty and prompting Mwangi to stab the latter.
“He was also drinking beer as the game proceeded and because Mutethia was also a bit drunk, they could not come to terms over their argument,” said a reveller who had accompanied Mutethia. “This is just a game for entertainment and he should not have got so [hot] tempered.”
Police have launched investigations to establish the motive of the alleged murder.
