Doctors from Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Hospital in Kerala, India, have arrived in Kenya to pay their final respects to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. They were accompanied by Raila’s daughter, Rosemary Odinga and welcomed in Mombasa by Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir, who also serves as ODM’s Deputy Party Leader.

Governor Nassir praised Raila’s global influence. He said the doctors came to honour a man whose legacy crossed borders. “The global outpouring of love for Baba reflects his extraordinary journey – one marked by courage, compassion and commitment to justice and humanity,” Nassir said. He added that Raila’s dream of a united and just Kenya must continue to inspire future generations.
Raila had a strong connection to Ayurvedic medicine. It was the same therapy his daughter sought in India in 2022. Rosemary was treated for secondary optic atrophy, a condition that causes vision loss. After four months of treatment, her eyesight improved. By 2022, she confirmed her vision had been restored, attracting worldwide attention to Ayurveda.
Ayurveda is an ancient Indian healing system. It is based on the belief that the body is made up of three elements: Vata (air), Pitta (fire), and Kapha (water). “Good health,” practitioners say, “depends on keeping these elements balanced. Treatment involves herbal medicine, special diets, massages, yoga and meditation.”
Raila also underwent Ayurveda therapy. He sought treatment for high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease and diabetes. The therapy also aimed to ease injuries he sustained during his long political career.
Sadly, Raila Odinga passed away in Kerala while receiving treatment. He was 80 years old.
The visit by the Indian doctors symbolises the deep respect and admiration Raila earned globally. It also reflects the personal bond between the Odinga family and the Indian hospital. Their visit stands as a touching tribute to a man remembered for his resilience, leadership and lifelong service to justice and humanity.
