Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has claimed that his brother-in-law, Geoffrey Ajiki, was taken by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday afternoon. Owino says Ajiki called him around 4:00 pm, reporting that six officers had arrested him. He was allegedly being taken to a police station in Nairobi. Since then, Ajiki’s phone has been switched off. Babu Owino says he cannot trace him.

The MP accused Internal Security Principal Secretary Raymond Omolo of being behind the alleged arrest. He called it political intimidation aimed at opposition leaders ahead of a major rally in Kakamega. Owino also mentioned officer Paul Ng’endo as allegedly involved in the incident. He demanded that Ajiki either be released or produced in court if there are legal charges. “If there is any charge, present him before a competent court tomorrow. We will be there,” Babu Owino said.
The alleged abduction comes just a day before the Linda Mwananchi rally in Kakamega. Owino and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna are among the top leaders expected to address the gathering. The MP claimed that Interior PS Omolo is allegedly sending “goons” from Kisumu to disrupt the event and intimidate attendees. He also linked Omolo to previous incidents of violence at a Kitengela rally.
Owino warned that the rally will go on despite threats. He said security agencies should not interfere with lawful political activity. He insisted that any charges must follow legal procedures and court oversight. The MP also appealed for transparency and accountability in handling the matter.
Political analysts say the allegations heighten tensions ahead of opposition gatherings. Residents and rally-goers are closely watching the situation. The claims highlight concerns about the safety of leaders and their families during politically charged events.
The MP’s statements have not yet received an official response from the DCI or other security agencies. The unfolding situation continues to dominate political conversations ahead of Saturday’s high-stakes rally in Kakamega. The coming days will reveal how authorities respond to Owino’s claims.
This incident raises questions about political intimidation, security agency involvement, and the safety of public political events in Kenya.
