Veteran musician Kevin Kioko, popularly known as Bahati, is celebrating 10 years in the music industry. He reflects on a career filled with highs, controversies and lessons.

He began as a gospel singer. Later, he switched to secular music. His bold videos, cross-dressing clips and explicit songs drew both admiration and criticism. After a year-long break, Bahati returned with the track Seti. The song sparked backlash, with Kenyans accusing him of promoting immorality. Despite this, he said he received many calls and messages from fans, friends, pastors and strangers.
“I did not want to reply based on emotions because I respect you all. Marking 10 years in music, I first want to thank you for your support. It has kept me on top all these years,” he said.
Bahati opened up about his life. Growing up without parents, especially without a father figure, was tough. He said he now tries to be a role model for his children and family. He admits he has made mistakes along the way.
“I hoped that reaching the top would change my story and God was faithful – my dreams came true. As a young man, I’ve made mistakes, lost my way and let down those who looked up to me. I understand if I lost your trust, but I’ve done my best while growing in the public eye,” he added.
The musician also apologised. “I apologise for times I may have failed as a father or disappointed those who follow Christianity. Most importantly, I ask my Heavenly Father to forgive my sins. I am just a man,” he said.
He added that being a pastor is not his calling. But he said he would follow that path if God leads him.As he celebrates a decade in music, Bahati remains a figure of both inspiration and debate. He continues to navigate fame, faith, and fatherhood under the public eye. His journey shows resilience, growth and the struggle to stay true while living in the spotlight.
