“Building Homes, Building Hope” – Elburgon Housing Project Nears Completion

The government’s affordable housing dream is becoming real in Elburgon, Nakuru County. The Elburgon Affordable Housing Project, now 99 percent complete, marks a major milestone in Kenya’s plan to provide decent homes for all. It also supports the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) by uplifting local communities through jobs and business growth.

The State Department for Housing and Urban Development funded the Ksh 499.8 million project. It sits on 2.5 acres in Molo Constituency. The development has 220 modern apartments in nine five-storey blocks that will host around 1,500 residents. Each block includes key amenities – parking, paved walkways, street lights, a borehole, green areas and a boundary wall for security.

Top Choice Surveillance Limited is the main contractor, working with Alphaquest Designs Consortium. Construction began on September 21, 2023 and will end on May 22, 2025. The housing mix includes 60 studios, 20 one-bed units, 120 two-bed units and 20 three-bed units, offering variety and affordability.

The project has transformed Elburgon’s economy. It created hundreds of jobs for both skilled and unskilled workers. Most materials came from local suppliers in Molo and Nakuru County, boosting small and medium businesses. The government also set aside 0.05 percent of the budget for the jua kali sector, ensuring local artisans benefited directly.

All steel doors, windows and rails were made on-site by jua kali craftsmen. Their work added value and kept money circulating within the community.

The estate also includes a football field, market and commercial stalls. These spaces will help residents live, work and play in one area. The borehole ensures a steady water supply, while landscaping promotes a clean, green environment.

The Elburgon Affordable Housing Project is more than buildings. It is a story of hope, inclusion and empowerment. It proves that when communities build together, progress follows—and dreams of decent housing become reality.
