A clinical officer at Chemaner Health Center in Bomet County has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman during a routine visit.

The suspect, identified as Eric Langat, also known as Kirinyet, reportedly committed the crime while attending to the patient in one of the consultation rooms. The victim screamed, attracting attention from staff and other patients.
Bomet East Sub-County Police Commander Michael Singa said bystanders saw the officer in a compromising position. Langat allegedly fled as people approached. Police launched a search and later apprehended him at a nearby hideout.
The woman was immediately taken to Longisa County Referral Hospital for a medical examination and counselling. Authorities praised the swift response, saying it helped preserve evidence and ensured the victim received proper care.
According to sources, Langat had previously been linked to two other alleged sexual assault cases. Those incidents reportedly went unreported, allegedly because of his influence within the health facility.
Commander Singa stated that the suspect would be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. “No one is above the law. We will ensure justice is served,” he said.
The case has raised concerns about safety in medical facilities. Patients, particularly women and expectant mothers, rely on health professionals for protection and care. Experts are calling for stricter oversight, stronger reporting mechanisms, and higher accountability among medical staff.
Hospital administrators confirmed they are reviewing protocols to prevent similar incidents. Staff have been reminded to uphold professional ethics and prioritize patient safety at all times.
The incident underscores the importance of vigilance in healthcare settings. Quick action by police and medical personnel ensured the suspect was caught and the victim supported. Authorities urge anyone with information on misconduct to report it promptly.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon. The case sends a strong message that abuse in medical facilities will not be tolerated and highlights the urgent need to protect vulnerable patients.
