CS Kipchumba Murkomen has urged parents to practice honest and present parenting. He stressed that personal attention is crucial for raising well-rounded children. Speaking at the Reformed Church of East Africa Women League annual convention in Kitengela, he said strong family foundations can prevent social problems and shape children’s values.

The Cabinet Secretary shared examples from his own family. He boasted about his wife, Gladys Wanjiru, who left her full-time job to focus on raising their two sons. Murkomen said her presence ensures the children get constant care and supervision. “I am very lucky my wife chose to stay home with the kids. I work double to support the family but she ensures someone is always there for the children,” he said.
His comments sparked online debate. Social media users discussed different approaches to parenting. Some praised his dedication to family values. Others questioned if stepping away from work is practical for every household.
Murkomen warned that many social issues come from a lack of parental guidance. He noted that parenting is often left to teachers, pastors, nannies, or the internet. Children miss consistent mentorship. He urged parents to actively engage with their children and prioritize family responsibilities.
He described a household built on mutual support. He praised his wife’s sacrifice in shaping their children’s values, discipline and emotional security. By sharing his story, he emphasized that investing time and attention in children today prevents social problems tomorrow. Family remains the first and most important line of guidance.
