Dozens Injured as Two Trains Collide Near Bratislava, Slovakia

Dozens of passengers were hurt on Sunday evening. One train ran into the back of another. Slovakia’s Interior Minister, Matus Sutaj Estok, said 11 people were taken to hospitals. Others suffered minor injuries. There were no deaths.

The crash happened on the route between Bratislava and Pezinok, about 20 kilometers northeast. Police said there was no head-on collision. No train derailed either. Passengers described the impact as shocking. One told news site Aktuality.sk it sounded like a loud “bang.”

Emergency teams rushed to the scene. Medics treated many passengers on site. Those with serious injuries were taken to nearby hospitals. Police are investigating how the collision happened. Early signs point to human error or miscommunication between train operators.

This is the second major train accident in Slovakia in one month. On October 13, two trains collided in eastern Slovakia. That crash left 91 people injured. The repeat incident has raised concerns about railway safety. Minister Estok called for a full investigation to prevent future accidents.

Railway officials said they would review safety systems. Signaling procedures and speed limits on busy routes are under scrutiny. A spokesperson said, “Our priority is passenger safety.” They promised stricter monitoring and better coordination.

Passengers were shocked but relieved. Emergency crews, police, and railway staff worked together. They restored order and restarted train services quickly.

Authorities are examining all possibilities. They will check for mechanical failures and operational mistakes. The public has been urged to follow official updates. Two accidents in one month put Slovakia’s railway safety in focus. Officials say stronger preventive measures and rapid emergency response are now critical.
