Easter Warning: NACADA Urges Kenyans to Choose Family Over Alcohol and Drugs

As Easter approaches, the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse is calling on Kenyans to stay away from alcohol and drugs during the celebrations. The agency is encouraging people to focus on family, reflection and positive experiences instead of substance use.

NACADA says many festive periods are often linked to increased alcohol and drug consumption, which can lead to health problems, strained relationships and risky behavior. The authority is urging individuals to make safer choices and spend quality time with loved ones during the holiday season.

The agency also raised concern about the impact of substance abuse on young people. It warned that continued use of drugs and alcohol is putting many youths at risk and affecting their future. Families and communities are being encouraged to guide young people and promote healthy lifestyles.

Beyond personal harm, NACADA notes that substance abuse can affect entire communities. Cases of accidents, violence and emergencies often rise during holidays due to excessive drinking. This puts pressure on families, healthcare systems and security agencies.

NACADA is now pushing for a shift in how people celebrate. It wants Kenyans to embrace responsible behavior and prioritize well-being during Easter. The agency believes that meaningful connections and shared moments offer more lasting value than substance use.

As the holiday nears, the message remains clear. Celebrate responsibly, protect your health and look out for one another.
