Eliud Owalo has been confirmed as the new patron of Gor Mahia Football Club. He takes over from the late Raila Odinga. The club announced the appointment took effect on Saturday, November 1. This marks a new chapter for Kenya’s most decorated football team.

Owalo is a longtime supporter and former deputy patron. He has actively been involved in the club’s activities. He has funded key initiatives and attended important matches. In the past, he donated a KSh20 million team bus and supported player recruitment. His elevation to patron was expected after Raila Odinga’s death.
Raila Odinga led the club as patron for decades. He was a political icon and devoted fan. His connection to Gor Mahia reflected his Luo heritage and love for football. Fans remember him for his loyalty and lifelong support. “Raila believed in the club as much as we do,” Owalo said. “I hope to honor his legacy and take Gor Mahia forward.”
Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier confirmed the appointment in a statement. “Further to the press release dated 16/10/2025 regarding the notice of assumption by then deputy patron Eliud Owalo as acting patron, this is to formally notify the public and the club members that Eliud Owalo has been confirmed as the substantive patron with effect from November 1, 2025,” the statement read.
Founded in 1968, Gor Mahia is Kenya’s most successful football club. It has won a record 21 league titles. Despite this, the club has faced financial challenges and administrative disputes. These issues have sometimes overshadowed its success on the pitch.
Owalo’s appointment is seen as a stabilizing force. Fans and stakeholders hope he will honor Raila Odinga’s legacy. They also expect him to guide the club toward more achievements. With his experience and dedication, Owalo aims to strengthen Gor Mahia’s management.
As Gor Mahia begins this new era, supporters are optimistic. They hope the club will continue inspiring both on and off the field. Under Owalo, Kenya’s football giants are poised to maintain their winning tradition.
