EPRA Tightens Grip on LPG Dealers, Orders Strict Safety Compliance Nationwide

The energy regulator has stepped up enforcement against LPG dealers who ignore safety rules. Traders who fail to comply now face stiff penalties. These include fines, court action, and possible cancellation of licences. The message is direct. Follow the law or shut down.

All LPG businesses must hold valid operating licences. Dealers are also required to secure approval from registered brand owners before selling cylinders. Fire safety certification is mandatory. Weighing equipment must be accurate and approved. Customers must receive official receipts for every purchase. Regulators say transparency protects consumers.

Storage rules have been reinforced. Cylinders must be kept in open, well-ventilated spaces. They must be placed away from sparks, flames, or flammable materials. Full cylinders cannot be mixed with empty ones. Stacking limits have been set to reduce the risk of collapse or explosion. Transportation guidelines are equally strict. Cylinders must remain upright and properly secured. Two-wheel transport is restricted to specific quantities depending on cylinder size.

Dealers must also display clear warning signs at their premises. Smoking near LPG storage areas is strictly prohibited. Safety information must be visible to the public at all times. Record keeping is now compulsory. Traders must document serial numbers, brand details, weight, and pricing information for each cylinder sold.

The regulator is asking the public to help identify rogue operators. Illegal storage in residential buildings and estates is considered a serious danger. Residents have been urged to report suspicious LPG activities in their neighborhoods.

Recent inspections revealed cases of tampering and rebranding of cylinders. Authorities say such practices compromise safety standards. With tougher enforcement now underway, LPG dealers are being reminded that compliance is not negotiable. The crackdown signals a broader effort to strengthen safety, protect households, and restore order in the gas distribution sector.
