FKF Sets Eyes on Kenya’s Coast as Beach Soccer Powerhouse

Kenya’s Coast is on course to become the country’s official home of beach soccer. The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has unveiled plans to make the region the center of the sport’s growth and development.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed made the announcement during the Africa Football Business Summit in Mombasa. He said the federation will invest more in building strong beach soccer structures at the Coast. “We want to make this region the hub of beach soccer,” Hussein said.

He praised Kwale County for hosting the Kentaste Beach Soccer Finals, where Mwanambeyu Girls and Diani Stars emerged champions. The event, he noted, showed the Coast’s potential to nurture top talent. “This region has the passion, the energy and perfect beaches for the sport,” he added.

The Harambee Sand Stars, Kenya’s national beach soccer team, already train at Buntwani Beach in Malindi. The team is guided by Gabriel Mghendi, Coast NEC Member and FKF Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee Chair. Mghendi said more tournaments will soon light up the region’s beaches. “We are ready for action. Fans will soon see more games and new talent,” he said.

Hussein believes Mghendi’s leadership will help Kenya build a competitive team. “With his experience and local support, we can create a strong national side,” he said. He added that the ultimate goal is to represent Kenya in regional and global tournaments.

Beyond beach soccer, Hussein also promised to boost youth and women’s football. FKF plans to roll out Under-17 competitions and expand grassroots training across the country. “In the coming months, expect major progress in youth and women’s football,” he affirmed.

The initiative signals a new dawn for Kenyan football. With the Coast’s natural beauty, growing talent and FKF’s backing, Kenya could soon emerge as a regional beach soccer powerhouse –  where waves, sand and skill meet under one banner.
