Flour Front Exposed: Guatemala Busts Nearly Five Tons of Cocaine in a Dramatic, Record-Breaking Port Raid That Shakes Global Drug Networks

Guatemalan police have hit drug traffickers hard. They seized nearly five tons of cocaine at a busy port. The raid shocked the region. It marked one of the biggest drug busts in years.

The operation took place at Puerto Quetzal. This is a key port on the Pacific coast. Officers moved in on Sunday. They acted on fresh intelligence. They stopped seven large shipping containers. On paper, the cargo was flour. In reality, it was something far more dangerous.

Officers searched the containers with care. Soon, they found tightly packed bricks. The bricks were hidden between the sacks. Each one held cocaine. By the end of the search, police had recovered more than 4,900 kilograms. That is about 10,800 pounds of drugs.

The Interior Ministry confirmed the scale of the seizure. It called it the biggest single operation in 12 years. Officials praised the teams involved. They said it showed strong coordination. They also said it proved the country is getting tougher on traffickers.

The method used by the smugglers was clever. They used flour to hide the drugs. This made the shipment look normal. It was meant to pass through port checks. Still, it failed. Better scanning and good tips helped officers catch it in time.

Drug gangs continue to use Central America. It is a key route for cocaine. The drugs come from South America. They move north to the United States. Along the way, cartels rely on local partners. This has raised crime and violence in the region.

US authorities say most cocaine passes through this corridor. Nearly 90 percent travels through Mexico and Central America. It moves by truck. It moves by plane. It also moves by fast boats and small submarines.

This latest bust sends a strong message. Guatemala is watching its ports closely. It is also working with regional partners. More arrests are expected soon. Investigators are now tracking who sent the drugs and who was meant to receive them.
