Makueni County has moved closer to owning a world-class sports facility. The county government has partnered with the Shrimad Rajchandra Love and Care Charitable Trust to build a modern sports complex in Mbooni Sub-County.

The 3,000-seater stadium will stand at Kakuswi Playground in Kiteta Kisau Ward. It will include a football pitch, volleyball and basketball courts and a six-lane running track. The goal is to give local athletes a proper place to train, compete and grow.
Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior hosted the Trust’s delegation led by CEO Rahul Parekh. They reviewed designs and signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The governor said the project will boost youth talent and create opportunities for sports growth.
“This is a game-changer for our county,” Mutula said. “From dust to glory, Makueni will rise through sports.”
The MoU outlines plans to scout talent across the county. The Trust will identify promising athletes, design special training programs, and prepare them for national and international stages. It will also train them in life skills, discipline and leadership.
To maintain the facility, the Trust will give Ksh 500,000 annually for the first three years and Ksh 300,000 each year after that. Water for the complex will come from a nearby borehole producing 60,000 litres per hour. The Trust will also fund a distribution system to serve the community.
Kiteta Kisau Ward is home to 2024 London Marathon winner Alexander Mutiso. The area has long produced athletes despite poor facilities. The new complex is expected to nurture more champions across different sports.
Governor Mutula, joined by Sports CEC Eng. Sebastian Kyoni and Sports Director Ambrose Kisoi, called the deal a major step for sports in Makueni. He said the county is ready to invest in youth talent and build a strong sports culture.
“Makueni will become a home of champions,” Mutula added. “Our young people deserve the chance to shine.”
