What began as a reported disappearance has quickly turned into a legal battle. Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju is now facing charges of giving false information to the police, shifting the focus from concern to accountability.

Authorities say Tuju claimed he had been followed and abducted. But investigators dispute that version. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, evidence shows he never left his home. DCI Director Amin Mohamed was firm in his statement. “He was physically present within his residence throughout the period in question,” he said, adding there was no doubt about their findings.
The case has raised eyebrows across the country. Police also revealed that access to Tuju’s residence was restricted when they tried to follow up on the missing person report. That detail has added another layer to an already confusing situation.
Legally, the charge falls under Section 129(a) of the Penal Code. It deals with giving false information to a public officer with intent to mislead. If proven, it carries a possible prison sentence. The case now moves from speculation to courtroom scrutiny.
However, Tuju has yet to take a plea. He did not appear at Kibera Law Courts, with his lawyers saying he is currently receiving treatment at Karen Hospital. His legal team, led by Kalonzo Musyoka, has requested more time.
The situation highlights how quickly narratives can change. A case that started with claims of danger is now centered on truth and responsibility. As the legal process unfolds, many are left asking one question; what really happened behind closed doors?
