From Tree to State House: Ruto Honours Truphena Muthoni After Historic 72-Hour Conservation Feat

President William Ruto on Monday hosted Guinness World Record tree-hugger Truphena Muthoni at State House. The meeting marked a defining moment for environmental activism in Kenya. It followed her bold 72-hour tree-hugging challenge in Nyeri County. The act drew national and global attention. It also reignited debate on climate change and conservation.

Truphena undertook the challenge to highlight the need to protect forests. She remained rooted to a single tree for three straight days. The effort tested her strength and resolve. This was her second attempt at a Guinness World Record. Earlier, she had completed a 48-hour tree-hugging challenge. This time, she pushed beyond her limits. As a result, her story spread widely.

At State House, President Ruto praised her courage and determination. He described her action as deeply symbolic. He said it sent a strong message to the world. According to the President, small actions can spark big change. He added that sustained commitment matters most in climate action.

The Head of State stressed the importance of youth leadership. He said young people must take the lead in environmental protection. He noted that Kenya’s future depends on today’s conservation choices. He also said Truphena’s action had inspired many.

In recognition of her efforts, President Ruto appointed Truphena as an ambassador of the 15 billion tree-planting campaign. He said the role reflected her leadership and resilience. Through this position, she will champion tree growing across the country. She will also mobilize communities to protect forests.

President Ruto went further. He awarded her the Head of State Commendation Medal. He termed it a national honour. He said it recognised her exemplary service to environmental stewardship. The award placed her among national heroes of conservation.

Additional support was also announced. The Kenya Wildlife Service and the Kenya Tourism Board offered Truphena and her team a fully sponsored holiday. The gesture acknowledged their dedication. It also aimed to encourage more conservation champions.

Moreover, the Ministry of Environment pledged support for her dream to visit Brazil. The trip will expose her to global conservation initiatives. It will broaden her leadership experience. Overall, the meeting showed how one determined act can grow into national recognition. It also proved that environmental action begins with individual courage.
