Rigathi Gachagua has issued a strong appeal to the government over the deepening drought in North Eastern Kenya. The former Deputy President said the crisis has reached a critical stage. He warned that many lives are now at risk.

In a statement released on Saturday, the DCP leader said families are suffering. Food is scarce. Clean water is harder to find. Health services are also failing. He said the region is sliding into a full humanitarian emergency.
Gachagua blamed poor leadership for the slow response. He said leaders in the region have ignored the pain of the people. He accused them of putting politics and personal interests ahead of human life. He said this failure has allowed the crisis to grow.
He spoke about the vulnerable. He mentioned orphans. He spoke about widows. He also talked about the sick. He said many of them have no access to food or medicine. As a result, suffering is spreading fast.
Livestock deaths have also increased. Gachagua said animals are dying from hunger and thirst. He pointed out that even camels are collapsing. These animals are known for surviving dry lands. Their deaths, he said, show how bad the drought has become.
He also spoke about leadership. He said public office is a duty. It is not a privilege. He said leaders must protect human life. They must act with wisdom. They must act with urgency.
Gachagua called on the government to act now. He said emergency funds should be released. Food and water should be delivered. Medical services should also be restored. He said all available resources must be used to save lives.
He also reached out to the international community. He urged development partners to step in. He said their support is needed now more than ever. He said humanitarian aid can help reduce suffering.
The DCP leader insisted that the drought must be declared a national disaster. He said this will allow a faster response. It will also help attract more support. He warned that delays will cost more lives.
North Eastern Kenya has faced drought before. But this one is worse. Families are losing their livelihoods. Children are going hungry. The sick are left without care. Gachagua said the country cannot remain silent.
