Motorists on the Thika Superhighway should expect delays this week as KeNHA carries out essential repair works on the Nairobi River Bridge at Globe Roundabout. The partial closure will run from March 12 to March 19, 2026.

KeNHA’s Director General, Luka Kimeli, said the measures are necessary to ensure safety along this busy corridor. “Motorists are requested to exercise caution around the work areas, and follow the proposed traffic management plan as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site,” he said.
Several detours have been set up to keep traffic moving. Drivers heading from Thika to Nairobi’s CBD will use the Globe Overpass. Those travelling towards University Way should take Prof. Wangari Maathai Road.
Vehicles from Thika going to Kirinyaga Road or the OTC Bus Station will be directed to use Ring Road. Drivers coming from Kipande Road towards the CBD will be rerouted through Limuru Road at Fig Tree, before connecting to Prof. Wangari Maathai Road.
Commuters travelling from University Way or the CBD intending to make a U-turn at Globe Roundabout should now use the Guru Nanak U-Turn. KeNHA added that extra lane management and temporary traffic control measures could be introduced as the work continues.
The reinstatement project is part of KeNHA’s ongoing effort to maintain and strengthen major highways and bridges across Kenya. The Nairobi River Bridge handles heavy daily traffic, making these repairs critical to prevent accidents and long-term disruptions.
Authorities are urging drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow instructions from traffic marshals on site. KeNHA emphasizes that these measures, though inconvenient, are aimed at ensuring public safety and smooth traffic flow once the works are complete.
This week-long closure highlights the importance of proactive infrastructure maintenance. While detours may slow journeys, commuters can expect a safer and more reliable bridge once the works are finished.
