Government Tightens Security Nationwide Ahead of Festive Season to Ensure Safety of Travelers

The government has increased security across Kenya as the festive season begins. The period is known for heavy travel, social events, and tourism activities. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen assured Kenyans that the country remains stable but warned that crime and traffic incidents often rise during the holidays.

Murkomen said the National Multi-Agency Command Centre is now active. It brings together officers from the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police, Intelligence Service, Prisons, Wildlife, Forestry, and National Youth Service. The centre will handle surveillance, share intelligence, and coordinate quick response. Regional and county command posts have also been set up. All officers on leave have been recalled.

Security teams are stationed at airports, border points, shopping malls, beaches, hotels and entertainment venues. Patrols have also been increased in public places and on highways. The government has launched a nationwide crackdown on illicit alcohol, drugs, and organized crime. The operation, led by NACADA and the police, also targets gender-based violence, early marriages  and extremist activities.

Murkomen urged Kenyans to stay alert and help law enforcement officers. He said everyone must play a part in safety. “Security is a shared responsibility,” he said. The government has pledged to stay on high alert to ensure all Kenyans enjoy a peaceful and safe festive season.
