Murang’a County Governor Irungu Kang’ata has handed over school fee support to over 50,000 students. The ceremony was held at Ihura Stadium. County leaders, parents, and other stakeholders attended.

The county allocated Sh230 million this year for education. The support covers public primary and secondary schools, orphans, learners with disabilities, and students in county programs such as Inua Masomo, Ward Bursaries, and the KJSEA initiative. Governor Kang’ata said bursaries focus on fairness and merit. “One principle that underlies our bursaries is fairness. To qualify, you need to perform well. That is all. You do not need to know anyone,” he explained.
The Inua Masomo program fully pays fees for the top 30 students in each day secondary school. Bursaries give Sh11,000 per student yearly, paid in termly instalments. KJSEA supports top primary school students with Sh10,000 each. Targeted bursaries help orphans and learners with disabilities. Ward Bursaries allocate Sh3 million per ward. Beneficiaries are selected by committees with community and church input.
Murang’a County also invests in early childhood and youth development. Over 500 ECDE classrooms were built or refurbished. More than 40,000 children receive free, nutritious uji every day. The Murang’a Youth Service Programme trains 6,000 young people in vocational skills. The aim is to prepare them for jobs and entrepreneurship.
Governor Kang’ata said the initiatives promote opportunity and reward hard work. He added the programs ensure no student is left behind. The county hopes to improve education outcomes, support families and develop future leaders.
