Residents of Shivakala–Lusokho village in Tongaren Constituency, Bungoma County, are struggling to understand how a minor disagreement turned into a fatal family tragedy. A quarrel between two brothers reportedly escalated into violence, leaving one dead and the other in police custody.

According to relatives, the dispute began over a pair of gumboots. What seemed like a small issue quickly grew into a heated exchange. Family members say the situation intensified inside the homestead before neighbours realised something was wrong. By the time help arrived, the incident had already turned deadly.
The deceased, 24-year-old Joshua Wafula Furaha, suffered severe injuries during the confrontation. His younger brother, 21-year-old Davis Wanyonyi Furaha, is being held as investigations continue. Authorities are working to establish the sequence of events that led to the attack and whether other circumstances contributed to the violence.
Their mother, Doris Nanjala Furaha, described the moment as sudden and distressing. She said the disagreement became physical and spiralled beyond control. She stated that her elder son sustained serious wounds and lost a significant amount of blood. Despite attempts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Neighbours have expressed disbelief at the incident. They noted that while the brothers had occasional disagreements, nothing previously indicated such extreme consequences. The community now faces the emotional impact of a conflict that started over a simple household item.
Police officers have opened an investigation into the matter. Statements are being recorded as part of efforts to understand what happened. Authorities have urged calm as they pursue answers.
The tragedy has left the family shattered and the village in mourning. What began as a routine argument has now become a painful reminder of how quickly tensions can escalate when emotions take over.
