Harambee Stars defender Zak Vyner has completed a major move to English Championship side Wrexham AFC. He ends his 20-year stay at Bristol City to join the Hollywood-backed Red Dragons. Vyner signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the ambitious club.

Vyner has been part of Bristol City since 2006. Over the years, he became the team’s record appearance maker in the Championship, playing 264 games. “I’ve been on this journey since I was eight. I never imagined it would go this far. It’s been an honour to represent you, and I’m proud to have worn the shirt so many times,” he said in a farewell message.
Wrexham confirmed the deal just before the European January transfer window closed. The club reportedly paid £1.5 million (KSh 266 million) for the Kenyan-eligible defender. He will stay at Wrexham until the end of the 2028/29 season.
The Red Dragons are targeting promotion to the Premier League. Currently, they are sixth in the Championship with 47 points, 11 points behind the automatic top-two spots. Vyner expressed excitement about joining the project. “I’m over the moon. Wrexham’s ambition and the back-to-back promotions already achieved are remarkable. Now I’m involved, and I can’t wait to contribute,” he said.
Vyner also had loan spells at Accrington Stanley, Plymouth Argyle, Rotherham United, and Aberdeen. Despite the loans, he remained a key figure at Bristol City and leaves as one of the club’s most experienced defenders.
Wrexham see Vyner as a crucial addition to strengthen their defence. His experience and versatility will be vital as the team pushes for promotion and aims to secure a spot in the Premier League next season. The Red Dragons, bankrolled by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are making bold moves on and off the pitch.
With Vyner on board, Wrexham fans will hope the club’s dream of top-flight football moves closer to reality. The defender’s arrival adds quality, leadership, and Premier League ambition to the squad.
