The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has warned that heavy rains will hit several parts of the country at the start of the week. The rainfall will affect the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley itself, the Lake Victoria Basin, parts of north-western and north-eastern Kenya, the Coastal region and the south-eastern lowlands.

KMD said some areas may see isolated thunderstorms with heavy downpours. This could cause localised flooding, poor visibility and disrupt transport and outdoor activities. Residents in the affected regions are advised to remain alert and take precautions.
The weather is expected to improve as the week progresses. Most of the country will experience sunny and dry conditions later in the week. Daytime temperatures will be high, with maximums above 30°C in the Coastal region, north-eastern and north-western Kenya, south-eastern lowlands, Rift Valley, and Western Kenya.
Cold nights will affect high-altitude areas. Minimum temperatures may drop below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands, North and Central Rift Valley, Western Kenya and near Mt. Kilimanjaro. Residents should plan activities and clothing accordingly.
KMD urged Kenyans to keep monitoring official weather updates. Staying informed will help people plan safely during the festive-to-new-year period. These updates are key to navigating early-week rains and enjoying the return of dry, sunny weather.
