“Homes of Hope, Engines of Growth” – Michinda Social Housing Project to Transform Elburgon

A new chapter is unfolding in Elburgon as the government rolls out the Michinda Social Housing Project. Worth Ksh 4.2 billion, the project is part of the Affordable Housing Program under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). It aims to provide modern, affordable homes while driving social and economic growth in Molo Constituency.

The project is led by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development. It sits on 10 acres of land at Michinda Boys Primary School in Nakuru County. The development includes 15 residential blocks, each rising 14 floors high. Once complete, it will deliver 2,680 housing units and accommodate about 9,000 residents.

Residents will enjoy key amenities such as parking areas, shops, a kindergarten, green spaces, a playground, and an underground water tank. A borehole will supply clean water, while a perimeter wall will enhance security.

Construction began on July 7, 2025, and is set to finish by July 20, 2026. Earth Care Services Limited is the main contractor, with Alphaquest Designs Consortium as the consultant. The project will include 680 one-room units, 1,330 two-room units, and 670 three-room homes – offering affordable options for different families.

Beyond housing, Michinda will boost the community through education and healthcare support. It will build new classrooms, dormitories and dining halls in nearby schools such as Michinda Boys, PCEA Elburgon, Orthodox, Sokoro and New Creation Primary. The nearby Elburgon Sub-County Hospital will also be upgraded and equipped to serve more people.

The project focuses on inclusion and accessibility. It will feature ramps and PWD-friendly washrooms. The jua kali community will make doors, windows and rails on-site, ensuring local artisans benefit directly.
