Lang’ata MP Jalang’o has boldly declared that he will run for Nairobi senator in the 2027 General Election. His main target is Edwin Sifuna, the current Nairobi senator. The former comedian-turned-politician said he is confident he will defeat Sifuna and take over the powerful city seat.

Speaking at a lively rally in Nairobi, Jalang’o told supporters that he is ready for a tough political battle. Wearing an Orange Democratic Movement scarf, he addressed a cheering crowd and made it clear that he will not shy away from the contest. He said the time has come for him to move from Lang’ata to the bigger stage of the Senate.
Jalang’o said he plans to vacate his Lang’ata parliamentary seat to focus fully on the senatorial race. He told supporters that he believes Nairobi residents are ready for a new kind of leadership. He added that he would campaign aggressively and leave nothing to chance as he goes head-to-head with Sifuna.
“I am going to battle my brother Sifuna head to head,” Jalang’o said. “There is no running away. With these leaders, we will campaign fully.” He even joked that he would send Sifuna back to Kanduyi early the next morning, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.
The rivalry comes at a tense time for Sifuna. He was recently removed as ODM secretary-general, although the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal temporarily suspended the decision after he challenged it. The case is still ongoing, adding more political drama to the situation.
Jalang’o also praised grassroots leaders, calling them the backbone of leadership. He was joined by MCAs from Westlands and even some United Democratic Alliance politicians, showing a rare mix of political forces at his event.
Despite his confidence, many Kenyans online were sceptical. Some said Sifuna would easily retain his seat. Others joked that Jalang’o would soon return to radio and comedy. Some criticised his performance as an MP, saying his work has not been visible.
Still, Jalang’o remains undeterred. He says Nairobi deserves fresh energy and strong leadership. With 2027 still some time away, the battle lines have already been drawn and Nairobi’s political race is getting more intense by the day.
