IEBC Chair Erastus Ethekon says elections cannot be rigged under the current systems. He spoke on Monday, December 8, at a high-level stakeholder forum reviewing the November 27 by-elections. The meeting took place at Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi. It brought together election officials, observers, security teams, and political actors to review successes and challenges.

Ethekon pointed out issues such as voter apathy, misinformation, pressure on election officials, logistical delays and some security incidents. He said all were handled effectively. “Stealing an election in this country is impossible. Our returning officers, honest observers and the media can all confirm this. Let that be clear,” he said.
He stressed that IEBC officials serve with neutrality and resist political influence. The chairperson also questioned why leaders interfere if they are confident in their popularity. He called attempts to influence presiding and returning officers unnecessary. “Why harass our officers if you are truly popular? Attempts to secure an illegitimate win only show insecurity.
A credible leader respects voters and the process,” he added. Ethekon urged politicians to trust the electorate, cooperate with officials and maintain discipline. He reminded them that credible elections require honesty from everyone. The commission will continue enforcing transparency. His message was clear: leadership comes from voter support, not manipulation.
