Inside ODM’s Leadership Shake-Up: Mbadi Demands Immediate Expulsion of Sifuna Amid Allegations of Loyalty Shift to UDA

Tensions are escalating within the Orange Democratic Movement. Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has called for the immediate removal of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna. He says the party cannot continue to tolerate internal divisions.

Mbadi, a former ODM chairman, accused Sifuna and some of his allies of shifting loyalty to the United Democratic Alliance. Speaking in Suba South constituency on Sunday, he warned that personal agendas must not override party policies.

“If someone cannot follow ODM’s policies, they should leave. Then we will know who is truly loyal,” Mbadi said.

He added that Sifuna is already conflicted and cannot remain in the party. “He is promoting someone else’s agenda. Pretending otherwise will only weaken ODM,” Mbadi said.

The CS urged the Central Management Committee to act quickly. He cited Sifuna’s repeated clashes with party leader Oburu Oginga as evidence of indiscipline. “Delays in handling this issue could create further problems. The party must act now,” Mbadi said.

Mbadi also dismissed campaigns spearheaded by Sifuna and other leaders, including Babu Owino and James Orengo. “These initiatives have no foundation. They do not reflect ODM policies,” he said.

Despite the tension, Mbadi reaffirmed ODM’s alliance with the United Democratic Alliance. He said the partnership will continue even if some members oppose it. “ODM is strong. It will remain solid, just as Raila left it,” he added.

He further emphasized the importance of engaging party supporters and maintaining loyalty. “Some think ODM cannot play politics. We will, and we will ensure our people remain steadfast under Oburu Oginga’s leadership,” Mbadi said.

Analysts say the dispute highlights a power struggle within ODM. Sifuna’s position now appears vulnerable. How the Central Management Committee responds will determine the party’s unity and strategic direction in the coming months.

The party faces a crucial test. It must balance leadership, loyalty and cohesion. The next decisions could define ODM’s political future and ensure it remains a strong opposition force in Kenya.
