“It’s Time for a New Path” – Nelson Havi Officially Resigns from UDA, Leaving Westlands Political Future Uncertain

Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has quit the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party. The party is led by President William Ruto. Havi announced his decision on Friday through a resignation letter. The letter was addressed to the party Secretary General and copied to the Registrar of Political Parties. He did not give reasons for leaving. This has sparked speculation about his next move.

In the letter dated November 7, 2025, Havi wrote: “I hereby give notice of resignation as a member of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) effective today, in accordance with Section 14 of The Political Parties Act, Cap 7D of the Laws of Kenya. Please notify the Registrar of Political Parties to remove my name from the membership list of the party.” This formally ends his four-year membership with the ruling party.

Havi joined UDA in 2021. He announced plans to contest the Westlands parliamentary seat in the 2022 elections. He was warmly welcomed by then-deputy president William Ruto and other party leaders. His legal expertise and public profile made him a high-profile addition to the party. His entry attracted attention from political watchers across the country.

Analysts say Havi’s resignation could shake up Westlands politics. He has not revealed whether he will join another party or run independently. His exit highlights growing political shifts as Kenya heads toward the 2027 elections.

Recently, several politicians have switched parties or expressed dissatisfaction with leadership. Havi’s departure adds to uncertainty in UDA and the wider political scene. His next steps are expected to attract close attention from supporters, rivals, and political analysts.

As Havi charts a new path, the political scene in Westlands faces uncertainty. Observers say his move could influence party strategies and voter alignments. With the 2027 elections approaching, Havi’s resignation marks an important moment in Kenya’s politics.
