Jubilant Scenes as UDA’s Leonard Wa Muthende Declared Mbeere North MP-Elect

Celebrations broke out at the Siakago Tallying Centre early Friday. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared Leonard Muriuki wa Muthende of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) the new MP for Mbeere North. Supporters cheered loudly. The victory came after a close race.

Wa Muthende won with 15,802 votes. His closest rival, Newton Kariuki Ndwiga of the Democratic Party (DP), had 15,308 votes. The contest was tight. Voters and party agents followed the results closely. Tension ran high as tallies arrived from all wards.

UDA leaders joined the celebrations. Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire congratulated Wa Muthende. Supporters waved flags and sang songs. The atmosphere was electric.

Wa Muthende thanked voters for trusting him. He promised to unite the constituency. He said development projects would continue in all wards. He plans to work with both national and county governments. Priority areas include water, youth jobs, and roads.

“I thank the IEBC for a free and fair election,” Wa Muthende said. “I will serve everyone. I will complete ongoing projects and start new ones. Bursaries and development will be my focus.”

IEBC officials said the election was peaceful. Only minor concerns were raised. Observers praised the smooth process. Residents followed procedures and helped ensure fairness.

Mbeere North now looks to Wa Muthende to deliver on his promises. Citizens hope for visible change. Development projects and better services are expected soon.
