Jubilee Party Backs Fred Matiang’i for 2027 Presidency in Bold Comeback

The Jubilee Party has endorsed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election. The move signals a bold comeback for the party as it seeks to regain political relevance.

Speaking after the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni confirmed the decision. He said the party had unanimously approved Matiang’i’s bid to fly the Jubilee flag in 2027. “We have received and accepted Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s application. The NEC has agreed that he will carry our flag,” Kioni announced.

In a major step, Matiang’i was also appointed Deputy Party Leader. The new role places him at the heart of Jubilee’s leadership and strategy. Kioni said the former CS will represent Jubilee in the “united opposition,” signaling a stronger push for structured leadership within the coalition.

The NEC meeting also focused on rebuilding the party. Members discussed plans to revamp grassroots operations, reopen branches and attract new members. “We now move to strengthen our base and reconnect with supporters,” Kioni said. He promised a more active and visible Jubilee in the coming months.

Several leadership positions were also filled. Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was appointed National Assembly Whip, while Senator James Lomenen took the role of Senate Whip. The changes are part of Jubilee’s effort to tighten its internal structure and prepare for future political battles.

During the meeting, the party extended condolences to the family of Mama Ida Odinga, wife of the late ODM leader Raila Odinga. “We stand with the family during this difficult moment,” Kioni said.

He also hinted at a possible review of Jubilee’s relationship with the Azimio la Umoja Coalition. However, he warned that any withdrawal could have legal implications for some members.

With Matiang’i now at the center of its strategy, Jubilee is clearly repositioning itself for 2027 –  ready to rebuild, reorganize and re-enter the national stage with renewed energy.
