Jubilee Party Opens Doors to DCP Defectors, Promises Transparent and Fair Nominations as It Prepares for 2027 General Elections

The Jubilee Party has said it is open to welcoming aspirants from the Rigathi Gachagua-led Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP). The move comes ahead of the 2027 general elections. Jubilee aims to strengthen its ranks and provide a fair platform for leaders.

Speaking at the party headquarters on Thursday, January 15, Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni assured defectors of free and fair nominations. He accused the DCP of extorting aspirants with promises of tickets. He warned Jubilee will not allow unfair flag-bearer selection. “I expect more defections. Here, we don’t ask for money when you come. Not that we have money, but here we don’t operate a toll station. Kenyans can see which of these parties stand to best represent them. Jubilee is a national party, and if you want to be a national leader, you go to a national party,” Kioni said.

Kioni also criticized Gachagua for disrespecting former President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee Party. He referred to past remarks where the DCP leader accused Jubilee of dividing Mt. Kenya. He also called the party a “red wheelbarrow” interfering with his political plans. “He defends Uhuru in one way and, on the other, calls him a red wheelbarrow. He defends the former president today and tomorrow, calling him a weak link. We don’t want that doublespeak. Just give Uhuru the respect he deserves, and give Jubilee the respect it deserves,” Kioni added.

The statements follow guidance from Uhuru. He urged members to maintain tolerance and avoid political hostility. Speaking to grassroots leaders in Murang’a County, he said democracy allows diverse views without insults. Uhuru warned that anyone misusing party loyalty to attack others, including Gachagua, could be expelled. He said petty fights weaken the party. Leaders have the right to join any party while respecting others.

Jubilee’s announcement shows a clear strategy. The party aims to position itself as a national platform. It offers fair nominations and a path for leaders seeking wider influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
