Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has reacted with humour after being removed from a key leadership role within the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party in the National Assembly.

The leadership shake-up was announced by coalition leader Kalonzo Musyoka after a meeting involving the Coalition Council and the National Coalition Executive Council. The meeting resolved to restructure several positions within the opposition alliance.
As part of the changes, Junet was removed as the leader of Azimio’s Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly. The coalition appointed Caroli Omondi, the Suba South MP, to take over the role with immediate effect.
Explaining the move, Kalonzo said the reorganisation was necessary because some leaders were no longer actively serving in the coalition’s top organs.
“The meeting resolved to terminate with immediate effect the appointment of Junet Mohamed as the leader of the Azimio Coalition Parliamentary Group in the National Assembly and appoint Caroli Omondi to the position,” Kalonzo said in a statement.
The announcement is part of a broader restructuring within the opposition coalition as it prepares for future political battles.
Several other leaders were also removed from the coalition’s decision-making bodies. Among those listed were Mining Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho and nominated MP Sabina Chege.
Others dropped from the National Coalition Executive Council include Wycliffe Oparanya, Adan Keynan, David Pkosing and Mishi Mboko.
However, Junet appeared unbothered by the decision.
Soon after the news spread online, the outspoken lawmaker posted an old viral meme on his X account. The post was widely interpreted as a lighthearted response to his removal.
The meme suggested he was taking the development in stride rather than confronting the coalition leadership.
Political analysts say the changes signal a shift within Azimio as the opposition reorganises ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The restructuring comes shortly after Kalonzo assumed a bigger leadership role within the coalition, a position previously associated with Raila Odinga. The meeting that approved the changes was chaired by former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
More adjustments to the coalition’s leadership structure are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
