Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hit back at President William Ruto. He rejected claims that he failed to deliver development in his home area. He said his decades in public service saw major infrastructure projects completed across Kitui and the wider region.

Speaking on Monday during a public engagement, Kalonzo said Ruto focused on attacking him instead of his agenda. He said the president highlighted missing roads in his home to question his leadership. “Ruto was in Kiambu where he made me the subject instead of worshipping. He was talking about me and my home area, saying there are no roads,” Kalonzo said. He also corrected the president’s claim of 50 years in leadership. He has served 40 years.
Kalonzo detailed the road projects he oversaw. He said the route links Kibwezi, Mutomo, Kitui, Mwingi, Tseikuru, and Maua. He added it connects Kenya to Ethiopia. He hired Chinese contractor Sinohydro to build the road. “The 40 years were of serious experience. When I was vice president, I launched the construction and got a Chinese contractor, Sinohydro, to build the road,” he added.
The remarks followed President Ruto’s attack. Ruto called Kalonzo a naysayer. He claimed Kalonzo cannot lecture him on development. Ruto criticized the road to Kalonzo’s home. He said it is dusty and muddy. Ruto insisted his administration will build 28,000 kilometres of roads by 2032. He argued it is vital to grow Kenya’s economy. He recalled that 10,000 kilometres were built during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure.
The exchange highlights rising political tension. Ruto stresses ongoing national projects. Kalonzo wants Kenyans to remember his decades of work. Both aim to show their leadership record. Roads remain a central symbol of influence and delivery.
