Kapseret Constituency students are set to benefit from a new free education initiative announced by MP Oscar Sudi on Thursday, February 5. The programme covers all day secondary schools in the area and includes free lunch to enhance nutrition and improve attendance.

Sudi, a close ally of President William Ruto, shared the announcement on his social media platforms, stating that all learners in day secondary schools within Kapseret will no longer pay school fees. “Free secondary education in day schools. Applicable to all day schools within Kapseret. Inclusive of free lunch. Tuboreshe elimu pamoja,” Sudi said.
The initiative aims to tackle absenteeism caused by financial constraints and poor nutrition. Sudi’s team has already started distributing food supplies to schools. Gitwe Primary School and St. Joseph Secondary School are among the first institutions to receive the support. According to the MP, proper nutrition not only boosts concentration but also enhances academic performance, supports growth, and reduces dropout rates.
This programme follows closely after Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro launched the Elimu Bora Education Programme, which requires parents to pay KSh 500 per term. Sudi’s plan, by contrast, ensures that education is fully accessible to all learners regardless of their economic background.
Community members have praised the move, describing it as a positive step for education in Kenya. Parents, teachers, and local leaders expressed optimism that the initiative will improve learning outcomes and reduce the burden on families.
By combining free education with nutritional support, the programme seeks to create a more conducive learning environment. Sudi emphasized that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to enhance education standards in the country and ensure that no child is left behind due to financial challenges.
The MP’s announcement has sparked discussions on social media, with residents commending the gesture and urging other leaders to consider similar programmes. As the distribution of meals continues across schools in Kapseret, students are expected to benefit immediately, both academically and physically, fostering a culture of learning and healthy growth.
