Kenyan Yavi Winfred Triumphs in 3000 Metres Steeplechase for Bahrain at the Olympics

Kenyan athlete Yavi Winfred won gold for Bahrain during the 3000 metres steeplechase at the Olympics in Paris. With Ugandan Peruth Chemutai taking silver and Kenyan Faith Cherotich claiming bronze.

Kenyas on X have expressed their support for Yavi and congratulated the athlete after her record-breaking win at the Olympics. They expressed their disappointment with the Kenyan government for denying her a spot to compete for Kenya.

This comes when Kenyan athletes have performed dismally at the Olympics compared to our previous performances. Kenya has brought home 4 medals thus far with one gold medal, one silver, and two bronze.

Despite being first in Africa alongside South Africa with four medals, Kenyans have not been pleased and are relying on hopefully bringing home four more medals. With anticipated races of Faith Kipyegon in the 1500 metres and Eliud Kipchoge in the marathon.

Yavi shared during an interview that she had tried severally to compete for Kenya but was denied. She said that this was due to the stiff competition and that she was never matching the criteria required to join the team and thus took the opportunity to compete in Bahrain.

Yavi will now be able to afford luxury accommodation.
