Kenya’s Ability Sports Team is set to make history as they prepare to debut at the 2025 World Beach Games, taking place from October 18 to 25 in Mersin, Turkey. The 23-member squad will represent the country across multiple para-sport disciplines, bringing with them high hopes, determination and a deep sense of national pride.
This marks Kenya’s first-ever participation in the global championship, which will feature athletes from over 13 countries in what has been dubbed the world’s first Para Sport Beach Games. The event is designed to celebrate inclusion, resilience and athletic excellence among persons with disabilities – values that align perfectly with Kenya’s growing movement for adaptive sports.
Ability Sports Kenya President Agnes Oluoch expressed her confidence in the team’s ability to make a statement on the international stage. “This is a historic moment for Kenya,” she said. “Our athletes have trained hard and are ready to prove that disability is not inability. I am confident we will return home with medals.”
Echoing her optimism, John Mburu, head coach of Kenya’s Air Para Badminton team, praised the athletes for their commitment during training and preparation. “This team has shown incredible determination,” he said. “We’ve had an impressive build-up, and I can assure Kenyans that these athletes will bring back medals and make the nation proud.”
For Ability Sports Kenya, this championship represents more than competition – it’s a defining step in the journey of empowering para-athletes and amplifying their visibility on the global stage. The federation’s recent efforts to provide resources, training, and exposure are paying off as Kenya cements its place among countries promoting inclusive sporting excellence.
As the team departs for Turkey, the mood is electric, and expectations are high. The Kenyan flag will fly proudly on the shores of Mersin, carried by a group of athletes who embody courage, unity and unshakable belief.
Their message to the world is clear: ability knows no limits and Kenya is ready to shine.
