Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai’s Firearm Seized After Confrontation With Babu Owino at Kilimani Restaurant

Police have seized a firearm belonging to Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai. This follows a tense confrontation with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. The incident happened at a popular Lenana Road restaurant in Nairobi’s Kilimani area. Authorities are investigating. They have reviewed CCTV footage and are interviewing witnesses.

Kilimani Sub-County Police Commander Patricia Yegon confirmed detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are leading the probe. “The MCA’s firearm is now held at Kilimani Police Station. Both politicians gave statements at the DCI office. Staff and management are also being interviewed,” Yegon said. More than six people have recorded statements. Police insist status will not shield anyone from accountability.

The confrontation escalated quickly. Babu Owino had visited the restaurant around 3:40pm at a senior clergyman’s invitation. He had released his security detail for the holidays and drove himself. After a 20-minute discussion, he stood to leave. He noticed a group of familiar faces at a nearby table, including Alai. Out of courtesy, Babu approached to greet them.

The exchange turned hostile. A comment about Babu’s political ambitions appeared to anger Alai. Efforts to calm the situation failed. Babu said he had no reason to involve Alai’s wife. Tensions rose further when Alai allegedly poured water on Babu’s face. Babu left the restaurant. Investigators are examining CCTV and witness statements. Police aim to determine who committed an offense. Accountability will apply regardless of position.

Authorities are monitoring developments closely. Kilimani Police assure the public all findings will be transparent. Any violations will be prosecuted under the law. The investigation continues with full attention on facts and evidence.
