KRA Board Chair Ndiritu Muriithi has defended President William Ruto’s goal to make Kenya a first-world country. Speaking in Nanyuki, he said the vision can succeed without overtaxing citizens. He urged expanding the tax base and encouraging voluntary compliance.

Muriithi criticized opponents who focus on attacking the president instead of offering solutions. “There are those who have criticised the president for his repeated pitch that it is possible to transform Kenya. I think the purpose of leadership is to provide vision, and that is what the president is doing. One must congratulate him for staying true to that vision,” he said.
He challenged critics to present their own ideas. “To those who disagree with him, what is your own compelling vision? It is not enough to simply criticise a vision because it is not presented by a leader from your formation,” Muriithi added.
He also addressed corruption. He said corruption may slow development but does not make transformation impossible. He cited Costa Rica as an example. “The presence of corruption in a country is not enough to stop a country from transforming to a higher income level, and an example of this is Costa Rica,” he said.
Muriithi urged Kenyans to focus on the bigger picture. Citizens should evaluate competing visions. Leadership should provide a roadmap for growth. Expanding the tax base will fund infrastructure, education, healthcare and other key projects.
His remarks come amid debates on economic policies and taxation. By defending President Ruto’s vision, Muriithi emphasized that transformation requires commitment, engagement and practical solutions that benefit all Kenyans.
