Kwale Woman Arrested in Diani Cannabis Bust as DCI Cracks Down on Drug Trafficking Networks

A 36-year-old woman was arrested in Diani, Kwale County, on Friday for possession of large amounts of cannabis. The arrest dealt a major blow to local drug trafficking networks. Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) acted on intelligence. They carried out a swift operation that recovered drugs worth millions of shillings.

The suspect, Hellen Saru Mwajombo, was first found with two green gunny bags filled with rolled cannabis. She then led officers to a nearby residence. There, a thorough search uncovered more drugs, including a black bag and another green gunny bag stuffed with cannabis.

Authorities also impounded a white Nissan Note, registration number KDS 092K. The vehicle was reportedly used to transport the narcotics. The DCI said all seized assets will help ongoing investigations.

Officials said the operation succeeded due to timely intelligence and strong multi-agency collaboration. “The DCI remains firmly committed to dismantling drug trafficking networks through relentless operations and multi-agency collaboration. With zero tolerance for traffickers, regardless of status, we will ensure a safer, drug-free Kenya for all,” a statement read.

The arrest shows authorities’ determination to fight narcotics crimes. By targeting both traffickers and their transport networks, law enforcement hopes to reduce drugs on the streets. Investigators are tracing the origins of the seized cannabis. They are also probing links to local and regional networks.

Mwajombo will face charges of possession and trafficking of narcotics. Courts are expected to handle her case soon. The DCI urged the public to report suspected drug activities. Officials said community cooperation is key to combating narcotics.

This bust is part of the government’s effort to create a drug-free environment. Authorities vow to pursue all traffickers relentlessly. The aim is to prevent illegal drugs from reaching Kenyan communities.
