Lorry Loses Brakes, Kills Driver and Injures Several in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Eldoret–Nakuru Highway

A lorry driver died early Tuesday morning after his vehicle lost control. The crash involved six other vehicles along the Eldoret–Nakuru highway in the Sachangwan area of Molo. The accident occurred around 3:40 a.m. and left several passengers injured.

Nakuru County traffic officer Emmanuel Opuru said the lorry lost its brakes before hitting the other vehicles, including two Nissan matatus. The driver died instantly. The injured were rushed to Molo Sub-County Hospital and the Provincial General Hospital (PGH) in Nakuru.

Police and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene. They helped the victims and controlled traffic. Rescuer Rachel Maru said congestion lasted for hours as teams cleared the wreckage. Sachangwan and nearby Migaa are known accident-prone areas on this busy highway.

This comes months after a March 2025 crash at Migaa killed 14 people. Authorities continue to warn drivers to exercise caution. High speeds and vehicle failures remain leading causes of accidents.

The body of the lorry driver has been moved to a funeral home in Molo. Police are tracing other victims treated at different hospitals. They are also documenting injuries and vehicle damage. Transport officials have called for stricter road safety enforcement and regular vehicle checks.

As investigations continue, the crash has reignited calls for better road safety awareness. Travelers along the Eldoret–Nakuru highway are urged to drive carefully, follow speed limits, and stay alert. Sachangwan and Migaa remain high-risk zones where accidents occur frequently.
