Makueni County has terminated a nurse at Kee Level 3 Hospital after he allegedly threatened a patient over medicine purchases. The nurse, named Nicodemus, reportedly sent a text demanding the patient buy drugs from a specific chemist. The incident sparked an investigation, which led to his dismissal.

The termination letter, dated October 22, 2025, was issued by Kaiti Sub-County Medical Officer Dr. Philip Maiko. Nicodemus was instructed to handover his responsibilities before leaving the hospital. Copies were also sent to the Chief Officer of Health Human Resource Management, the Director of Health Planning and the Facility In-Charge at Kee Health Centre.
County officials said the matter was reported promptly, prompting a swift internal review. The findings confirmed serious misconduct which could not be ignored. The letter read in part: “This is a formal notice of the termination of your contract as a registered nurse with Kaiti Sub-County. The decision takes effect Friday, October 24, 2025. Ensure handover to the facility in charge before exit.” Dr. Maiko thanked the nurse for his previous service.
Authorities stressed that patient safety and professional conduct are mandatory. Any form of intimidation, coercion or unethical behavior will face strict disciplinary action. Residents have been assured that hospital operations will continue without interruption. A replacement nurse will be deployed immediately to maintain healthcare services.
The case sends a strong message: Makueni County will not tolerate misconduct in its health facilities. By acting decisively, the government aims to restore trust among patients while promoting a safe, respectful environment for both staff and the public.
Officials also urged community cooperation to ensure accountability and uphold the highest standards of care. The move highlights Makueni County’s commitment to ethical healthcare, patient protection and zero tolerance for malpractice.
