Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch was crowned Miss Universe in Thailand on Friday. She claimed the title after weeks of drama before the final round. Contestants from Ivory Coast, the Philippines, Thailand and Venezuela also reached the finals. Over 120 women competed in one of the world’s top beauty pageants.

Tension began when Bosch staged a walkout during a meeting with Miss Universe Thailand director Nawat Itsaragrisil. She was chastised for not posting promotional content on social media. Nawat allegedly called her “dumb.” Bosch, flanked by Miss Iraq, walked out. Some contestants showed solidarity. Others froze as Nawat warned that participants should sit down to continue.
Bosch told reporters, “What your director did is not respectful. We are empowered women, and this is our platform.” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum praised her bravery. “Women look prettier when we speak out. My recognition goes to this young woman,” Sheinbaum said. Nawat later apologized and publicly congratulated Bosch, supporting Mexico’s fans.
Other drama unfolded before the finals. Two judges quit. French composer Omar Harfouch claimed a “secret and illegitimate vote” occurred without the official jury. Former footballer Claude Makelele withdrew, citing personal reasons. Contestants also faced accidents. Miss Britain Danielle Latimer fell during the costume round. Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry fell off the main stage during the evening gown showcase and was hospitalized. Both were not seriously injured.
Bosch’s victory sparked celebrations in Mexico. Thousands gathered in her hometown, Villahermosa, at a baseball stadium to watch live. Fans chanted “Mexico, Mexico!” Fireworks lit the sky. Social media buzzed with praise for Bosch’s courage and triumph.
Her win highlights resilience, strength, and empowerment. Bosch not only took the crown but also made a statement about respect and women’s voices. The pageant proved unpredictable and dramatic. Fans worldwide watched as she turned controversy into victory.
