Molo MP Kuria Strongly Condemns Gachagua’s Tribal Remarks, Calls for Fair and Merit-Based Grade 10 School Placement Nationwide

Molo MP Kuria Kimani has condemned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over tribal remarks on Grade 10 school placement. Speaking at Michatha Secondary School, he described the comments as retrogressive and dangerous. He warned they could fuel ethnic tensions in schools.

Kuria urged Gachagua to avoid interfering in education matters. He called on him to show statesmanship if he truly cares about Kenyan students. “School placement is a national exercise guided by merit and equity, not by region or ethnicity,” Kuria said. Transparency and fairness must guide all decisions affecting students.

The legislator criticized Gachagua’s reported call for Central region schools to prioritize local learners. He said such remarks are divisive and ill-timed. Students are expected to report next week, making the statements particularly sensitive.

Kuria also called on leaders from the Central region to consider marginalized and underdeveloped areas. He urged them to support President William Ruto’s agenda for regional balance and inclusivity. “Our focus must be on equity and opportunity for all children across Kenya,” he said.

The MP’s comments come amid concerns about politicization of school placements. Experts warn that favoritism based on ethnicity can undermine national unity and the education system’s integrity.

Kuria stressed that school admissions should remain impartial and merit based. He asked all leaders to be careful when commenting on education. Schools must remain spaces for learning, not political or ethnic agendas.

By condemning tribal remarks in education, Kuria Kimani seeks to protect students. He wants to ensure Kenya’s education system operates on fairness, inclusivity and national unity. His comments have sparked nationwide discussion on leadership responsibility and equal opportunities for all learners.
