President Yoweri Museveni has warned that Africa remains dangerously exposed to foreign military pressure. He said the unfolding US–Venezuela confrontation shows the price of weak continental unity. He blamed years of delayed political and security integration.

Museveni spoke during an engagement with youth leaders and social media influencers in Kampala. He said the incident should wake Africa up. He urged leaders to rethink security. He called for a shared defence strategy.
According to Museveni, global powers dominate modern warfare. He said they control the air. They control the seas. They also control space. However, he argued that land operations are far more costly. He said resistance on land can defeat even powerful forces. “They are strong in the air and at sea. But land is risky for them,” he stated.
The Ugandan leader referred to recent US actions in Venezuela. On January 2, US forces carried out strikes and arrested President Nicolás Maduro. He was flown to the US to face terrorism and narcotics charges. The move shocked many countries in the Global South.
Museveni said the operation exposed major global power gaps. He explained that the US acted from several directions at once. “They operate from the sea. They operate from the air. They operate from space,” he said. He warned that Africa lacks such capacity.
As chair of the Non-Aligned Movement, Museveni said neutrality is no longer enough. He argued that Africa must strengthen regional blocs. He called for deeper continental cooperation. He urged joint investment in military capability.
Museveni also stressed political unity. He said divided states invite interference. He warned that Africa must act fast. “Without unity,” he said, “the continent will remain weak and vulnerable.”
