K24 is now conducting a recruitment exercise of new reporters and news anchors to replace some of its staff who were fired recently. Among the faces that will grace the K24 screen is Mwanaisha Chidzuga who was recently laid off from KTN during its restructuring exercise.
Others who have come on broad are Juma Balo who returns from KBC where he landed after being sacked in 2013. Up and coming reporter Ian Wafula is also coming in from KTN.
Chemtai Goin, whom K24 had sent packing earlier on, makes a comeback after a stint at capital FM. Her colleague Amina Abdi, also a presenter at Capital, is also joining K24 and Zawadi Mudibo formerly of WTV who had previously worked at K24 and KTN. The move by the station to lay off its previous employees was in a bid to reduce expenditure and hire new staff at more affordable rates.
With Citizen TV leading the pack with a viewership of almost 40%. KTN ranks in second at 15% and NTV follows closely at 12%. K24 ranks in the fourth position at 8% as it is struggling to have a fair standing in the market that is largely dominated by three with the national broadcaster coming in at number five with only 7%.
