Ida Odinga has declared a net worth of Ksh.500 million. She revealed this during her parliamentary vetting. The session was held before the National Assembly committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations. Lawmakers were reviewing her nomination as Kenya’s envoy to the United Nations Environment Programme.

She told the committee her wealth is personal. She separated it from property linked to the larger Oginga family. She did not give details about investments or businesses. She said the figure reflects assets that belong to her alone.
The vetting also focused on her plans if approved. Ida spoke strongly about environmental protection. She warned that poor management of natural resources harms livelihoods. She said climate change is already affecting vulnerable communities. She promised to push for sustainable solutions.
She pledged to defend Kenya’s and Africa’s interests at the global environmental body. She said policies must go beyond conferences and speeches. They must bring real change to ordinary citizens. She emphasized teamwork with other nations.
The hearing had an emotional moment. Ida paid tribute to her late husband, Raila Odinga. She said he supported her for 52 years. She described him as her strongest pillar.
The committee will now prepare its report. The National Assembly will debate her nomination. If approved, she will take up the diplomatic role at a critical time for global climate action.
