Nairobi CBD Gets Stunning Makeover With Resurfaced Roads, Stylish Streetlights, Green Spaces, Led by Governor Sakaja

Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) has received a major makeover under Governor Johnson Sakaja. The project aimed to improve safety, functionality, and the city’s appearance. Streets like Moi Avenue and City Hallway have been resurfaced with durable cabro blocks. New streetlights and green spaces now enhance the area. Residents and visitors say the CBD looks almost unrecognizable.

The refurbishment began in 2024. It was funded by a record KSh 12.8 billion in county revenue. Governor Sakaja said the funds would support public infrastructure and restore Nairobi’s vibrancy. Roads and pedestrian walkways were resurfaced. Decorative trees were planted. Low walls were added to give people places to sit. Stylish vintage streetlights were installed to improve safety at night. More waste bins were added to keep the city clean.

Governor Sakaja shared photos of the changes on social media. He wrote: “It’s coming together. Nairobi CBD.” The area around the Kenya National Archives now features modern patterned pavements. Many Kenyans praised the governor for the improvements. Some suggested other areas of Nairobi should also get similar upgrades.

The makeover shows how planning and proper funding can transform a city. The upgrades improve public safety and make the CBD more accessible. At the same time, they create a visually appealing environment. Businesses and visitors benefit from the improvements.

The project boosts civic pride and sets a new standard for urban development in Nairobi. Governor Sakaja’s initiative has turned the CBD into a safer, cleaner and more attractive part of the city. The work demonstrates that functional urban planning can also be beautiful.
