The Nairobi City County Assembly has introduced a new gold-plated mace valued at KES 33 million, symbolizing the authority of the Assembly.
The 11 kg mace, which was unveiled on Tuesday, September 10, by Nairobi Assembly Speaker Kennedy Ng’ondi, serves as a prestigious emblem of the Assembly’s power and tradition.
During the unveiling, Speaker Ng’ondi highlighted the significance of the mace and cautioned Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) about the importance of adhering to the standing orders related to its handling.
“This is a state-of-the-art mace and a delicate instrument representing the authority of the County Assembly as it conducts business. Its custodians and handlers must manage it with the care it deserves,” Ng’ondi stated during the plenary session.
He further emphasized the need for MCAs to respect the mace’s symbolic role in the Assembly’s proceedings. “I urge the honorable members to familiarize themselves with the standing orders regarding the mace to avoid any issues,” he added, stressing the mace’s role in maintaining the decorum and authority of the Assembly.
The unveiling of the new mace marks a significant investment in preserving the traditions of the Nairobi County Assembly, reinforcing the ceremonial importance of the instrument in legislative processes.
